Uso sa Japan ngayon ang pagkalat sa hangin ng abo ng yumao. Negosyo ang pagbenta ng espesyal na lobo na magsasaboy nito, kasunod ang ilan pang lobo na sumasagisag sa asawa, mga anak at apo ng namatay. Nagbi­bilian ang matatanda na huwag nang itago ang abo nila sa urn sa bahay o templo. Ayaw nilang maging abala sa mga maiiwan nila.

Sa Pilipinas maraming nagnanais din maging kaisa ng kali­kasan pagpanaw. Ipina-cremate si henyong botanist Leo­nard Co na pinaslang ng mga sundalo nang mapagka­malang rebeldeng komunista nu’ng 2010. Kalahati ng abo niya ay ibinaon sa gilid ng puno na itinanim niya nu’ng 1975 sa U.P.-Diliman campus. Nang mabinyagan siyang Kristiyano, ipinagbawal ni Emperor Constantine (272-337 AD) ang cremation. Dati nang tradisyon ng mga Judeo ang paglibing, tulad ng kay Hesukristo. Sa mga Muslim dapat ilibing ang patay bago lumubog ang araw.

Bumalik ang cremation dahil naging mahal magpalibing. Ngayon isinasaboy ang abo dahil mahal na rin ang kolum­baryo.

ANG German daw ay wika ng agham. Ang Italian daw ay wika ng romansa. Ang French ay wika ng diplomasya.

Lumaganap ang English dahil sa industriya, teknolohiya, telebisyon at Hollywood. Dumagdag pa ang musika, gaming at YouTube. Maraming millennials ang nag-i-English na parang taga-New York o California dahil sa panonood ng Sesame Street, Barney at pelikulang may English subtitles.

At sino ang may-ari ng Tagalog? Hindi ito maari ang­kinin ng Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora at Bataan. Hindi rin ito pag-aari ng Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Mindoro o Marinduque.

Naging salita ng maraming Pilipino ang Tagalog dahil­ sa radyo-telebisyon mula Metro Manila, ang National Ca­pital Region. Sa malls sa Pangasinan, Tarlac, Davao, atbp. nagta-Tagalog ang mga nagtitinda.

Ibang-iba ang Tagalog noon kesa ngayon. Ikumpara na lang ang “Ibong Adarna” at “Florante at Laura” sa Pilipino Star Ngayon. Ilinalarawan ang pagkakaibang ito sa sikat na teleseryeng “Maria Clara at Ibarra”. Nagbabago-bago ang wika sa paglipas ng panahon. Isang siglo mula ngayon baka tawanan ng kabataan ang pagta-Tagalog natin.

NAGLABAS si Migrant Workers Sec. Susan Ople ng 20 alitun­tunin sa labor recruiters. One-strike policy – kanseladong recruitment license agad ang parusa sa paglabag.

Kabilang sa 20 “mortal sins” ang pag-recruit ng menor de edad, at sa trabahong panganib sa buhay, pangkalahatang kalusugan, moralidad, dignidad ng tao, at reputasyon ng bansa. Panunuhol, korapsyon, padri-padrino. Panlilinlang, pag-re­cruit ng walang kontrata o paggamit ng papeles ng iba, pag-deploy sa ibang employer o sa bawal na pook.

– One-strike policy din sana sa burokratang binabagalan­ ang pag-isyu ng papeles para humingi ng “langis” (suhol). Sinisira nila ang kabuhayan ng mga nag-a-apply ng lisensiya at ang imahe ng gobyerno. Ni hindi nabubuwisan ang kinikita sa korapsyon.

Dapat linisin ng Comelec ang mga talaan ng botante sa darating na barangay elections. Maraming naulat na nagrehis­trong “flying voters”. Ibu-bus sila sa iba’t ibang barangay para bumoto sa mga piling kapitan.

Malaking raket ang naganap nu’ng Enero sa isang baran­gay sa Metro Manila. Humakot ang isang malaking nego­s­yante ng 4,000 na taga-ibang pook para magrehistro sa natu­rang barangay. Binayaran sila ng tig-P1,000, o P4 milyon para sa lahat. Kahindik-hindik na mas marami pang flying voters ngayon kaysa 3,000 na totoong residenteng botante sa barangay na ‘yon.

Ano’ng interes ng malaking negosyante sa munting ba­­­ran­­gay? Sagot: “Class-A” kontratista siya ng Dept. of Public Works and Highways. Maari siyang kumontrata ng mahigit P100 mil­yon. Sa tubo na 10-15% bawat kontrata, tutubo siya ng P10-P15 milyon.

 

Dahil sa “Mandanas ruling” kamakailan ng Korte Suprema­, tataas ng 27% ang Internal Revenue Allotments ng mga pro­binsya, lungsod at barangay. Bilyon o daan-milyong pisong taunang dagdag na biyaya mula sa national government. Tiba-tiba ang mga kontratista.

Hayagang kwalipikasyon ng kontratista ng DPWH ang ka­kayahang tumapos ng proyekto at dami ng ekwipo. Sikretong kwalipikasyon ang pagbigay ng suhol sa DPWH. Mas mala­king proyekto, mas malaking suhol.

Maliit ang halagang P4 milyon para sa Class-A contractor na naghakot ng fake registrants nu’ng Enero. Sa araw ng halalan­ hahakutin at babayaran niya sila muli para bumoto sa iba’t ibang barangay. Ipapanalo niya ang mga kasapakat na kandidato.

Sa mga darating na proyekto niya roon ipapa-certify niya sa barangay na tapos na ang trabaho—maski hindi. Sisingil siya sa DPWH. Kawawang mga residente sa barangay. Kawa­wang nagbabayad ng buwis. Magdudusa sila sa palpak na kalsada, tulay, eskwelahan at gym.

Nakakaligtaang pandemya ang TB, na pumapatay ng isang tao sa mundo kada 20 segundo. Dalawang bilyon ng walong bilyong nilalang ang impektado ng Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Karamihan walang sintomas, kaya hindi alam na impek­tado sila. Pero isa sa bawat 10 kalapit ay hahawaan nila. At maski nagagamot ang TB, pumapatay ito ng 1.6 milyon taun-taon, karamihan sa mahihirap na bansa.

Pinapatay ng TB ang 70 Pilipino araw-araw, isa bawat 20 minuto. Isa ang Pilipinas sa walong bansa na bumubuo ng 70% ng mga kaso. Pilipinas ang pang-apat na pinaka-malalalang bansa – 7% ng mundo.

Sa bawat 100,000 Pilipino 650 ang naimpekta nu’ng 2021. Lumala ito mula 554 kada 100,000 nu’ng 2020. Patuloy pa itong gagrabe.

 

Bumagsak nang 90% ang pag-ulat ng sampung bansa ng mga bagong kaso. Isa ru’n ang Pilipinas, anang World Health Organization.

Isang siglo na sa mundo ang bakuna kontra TB: ang BCG. Subok na itong epektibo. Walang dapat ikatakot ang mga Pilipino. Paturukan ang mga sanggol bago magdalawang linggo.

Dalawang bagong bakuna ang sinusubukan sa Africa at Asia. Mainam magpaturok din nito ang mga bata at matanda.

Masigasig ang Department of Health sa paggamot. Nakakamit sa apat na rehiyon ang target ng dami ng gagamutin: Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog mainland, Central Luzon, Western Visayas. Pero nangungulelat sa gamutan ang Bang­samoro Autonomous Region at Cordillera Administrative Region.

Karamihan ng naiimpekta ay maralita, anang DOH. Dahil ‘yon sa kapos na pagkain, siksikan at kulang sa bentilasyon, pagkalulong sa sigarilyo at alak, at ‘di nalulunasang diabetes at HIV. Dumarami ang walang trabaho at maralita gawa ng impeksiyon.

NAKIKINIG ang madla kapag nagsasalita si Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, dating PNP general. Ibang uri siyang opisyal. Malalim, may integridad. Kaya nga siya ang ginawang pinuno ng Mamasapano Commission na nag-imbestiga ng masaker ng 44 PNP Special Action Force commandos, 2015. Kasama rin siya sa komiteng sumuri ng record ng 954 PNP heneral at koronel na nag-courtesy resignation, 2023.

Pero nagtataka si Magalong. Aniya, bakit wala ni isang senador o kongresista na nag-boluntaryong isuko ang kani­lang tig-bilyon pisong pork barrels para sa kapakanan ng bansa. Bilang mayor, aniya, alam niyang may pork barrels ang mga ‘yon mula sa DPWH.
