KUWENTO ito ni Salesian Father Donnie Duchin Duya ng Don Bosco, Philippines nu’ng Oct. 9 nang e-cannonize ni Pope Francis na Santo si Italian pharmacist Blessed Artémide Zatti. Namatay siya nu’ng 1951 pero nagmilagro­ sa Batangas nu’ng 2016. Ginagawang Santo ang Blessed kapag may nagawang himala. Isinatagalog ko ito para ma­ikalat.

Na-stroke si Renato Narvaez, 64, Aug. 11, 2016. Sa ospital 240/150 ang blood pressure at hindi na maalala ang sariling pamilya. Nang mag-comatose siya sa dami ng blood clot sa utak, hindi madisesyunan ng pamilya kung magastos siyang paooperahan sa bungo. Tumawag ang isang anak sa kapatid ni Renato sa Rome, si Salesian Brother Obet Narvaez.  Pumayag siya na huwag nang operahan si Renato. Binilinan ang pamilya na magdasal kay Blessed Zatti at dikitan ng retrato nito sa kamay ng pasyente. Agad umuwi sa Pilipinas si Bro. Obet, dala ang barong tagalog para sa tiyak na burol ng kapatid.

Diretso sa ospital si Bro. Obet, Aug. 21. Pumirma ng waiver para iuwi si Renato. Hindi na nila binili ang prescribed medicines. Pag-uwi ng 8:00 p.m. naghanda na sila sa pagpanaw. Bumili na nga ng memorial lot ang isang anak. Nag­linis sila ng bahay. Niluwagan ang pintuan para magkasya ang ataul sa burol. Alas-onse pina-extreme unction sa pari si Renato. Sinamahan ni Ka Obet ang kapatid at magdamag nagdasal.

Kinaumagahan alas-4, biglang bumangon si Renato. Humingi ng pagkain. Nagkuwento parang hindi galing sa coma. Inalalayan ng misis sa kubeta para umihi. Lumabas at naglakad nang sarili si Renato.

Umepekto ang dasal kay Blessed Zatti. Naalala ni Bro. Obet na nu’ng Nov. 15, 2015, nang bumisita sa nitso ni Zatti­ sa Rome, hinamon niya itong maghimala para maging Santo. Nagkatotoo nga. Maraming saksi. Anim na taong inim­bes­tigahan ng Vatican. St. Zatti, pray for us.

Paniwala ng high school teachers namin nu’ng dekada ’70 na ang mga estudyanteng tumutugtog ng musika ay mahusay sa Math. Dalawang dosena kaming freshmen sa Advanced Algebra. Du’n napansin ni Mister Aunario na karamihan sa amin ay miyembro ng school rondalla (ni Grade 6 Math teacher Mr. Segundo), marching band o may combo.

Nahahasa nito ang bahagi ng utak na kailangan sa Math. May saliksik na nabubuo ang mga kumplikadong Math problems ng mga batang tumutugtog. May kuwento na kapag hindi malutas ni Albert Einstein ang mahirap na Physics equation, tumitipa muna siya ng piano o violin. Habang minumuni-muni ang math issue (sa kaliwang bahagi ng utak) at tumutugtog (kanang bahagi), napag-uugnay niya ang konsentrasyon sa solusyon.

Siyanga pala, hindi totoong lagpak si Einstein sa high school Math. Brilyong estudyante siya sa Germany, at nag-Physics PhD sa University of Zurich. Sumali si Frenchman Patrick Renucci sa pagtatanim ng palay sa Alangalang, Leyte. Matapos nila maipanalo ang Renucci Rice bilang World’s 3rd Best nu’ng 2019, target nila ngayon mag-No. 1. Kasabay nu’n, mapababa ang presyo ng produksiyon at mapataas ang kita ng magsasaka.

Presyong bilihan ng palay ay P12/kilo; halaga ng produksiyon sa Sultan Kudarat ay P10.23/kilo. Bu­maba ito sa P7.55/kilo. Kaya tumaas ang kita ng nagtanim.

Pinahihiram ang combines sa 8% ng ani kada ektarya, pang-diesel at maintenance. “Nasira ang dalawang combines nang ibangga sa puno ng niyog habang inaaral manehohin ng trainees namin,” kuwento ni Patrick. “Nu’ng una takot sila sa combines, ang tawag nila ‘halimaw’.” Nagbago ito nang minsan papalapit na ang malakas na bagyo. Ikatlong pinakamahusay na bigas sa mundo ang Renucci Rice ng Leyte. Huli ito naisipan isali sa World Rice Conference sa Makati, Nov. 2019. Ganunpaman, dinaig niya ang 27 ibang uri ng bigas sa hitsura, hibla, moisture, bango at haba ng butil. Ang dumaig lang dito ay Thailand at Vietnam na dalawang taon naghanda. Kauna-unahan para sa Pilipinas ang tagumpay ng Renucci Rice.

Nabanggit ang Pilipinas sa conference dahil lang pinaka-malaking importer ng bigas – 3-milyon tonelada kada taon – mula Thailand, Vietnam, India, China, Japan, America. “Kaya mas matamis ang panalo namin,” ani Rachel Renucci-Tan, co-founder ng Chen Yi Agventures. Katotodo-operasyon pa lang ng kumpanya apat na buwan bago nu’n. Ni walang Dalisay brand nila na bitbit si Rachel. Bumili lang siya ng dalawang kilo sa malapit na tindahan para i-eksibit at lutuin.

Aksidente lang din ang pagpasok sa pagpapalay ni Rachel, na tubong-Makati. Namamahala siya ng $1-­bilyong real estate investment sa Paris at malaking printer sa Europe ang asawang Patrick Renucci nang wasakin ng Super Typhoon Yolanda ang Visayas nu’ng 2013. Tinawag niyang “cell” ang bawat munting bahagi.

Pero may sulok-sulok ang proteins na hindi basta masi­ngitan ng markers. Malabo pa rin ang plaques ng Alzheimer’s­ disease, halimbawa. Binago ni Boyden ang paraan. Pina­­maga muna ang specimen bago lagyan ng markers. Pina­litan ang enzymes ng init. Lumolobo na ang specimen nang 18 beses. Masusuri na ang Parkinson’s, anang Economist.
