TUWING maka-Pasko’t Bagong Taon sa Maynila, hinahakot ng pulis ang mga pulubing maiitim, maliliit at kulot­. Tinatawag silang Badjao ng mga tagalabas; Sama ang tawag nila sa sarili. Ibinabalik sila sa pinagmulang tabing-dagat sa Zamboanga, Sulu at Tawi-Tawi. Nakatira sila sa mga bahay na bangka. Walang permanenteng address, walang dokumento ng kapanganakan, walang citizenship. Tinuturing silang “sea nomads”.

Tawid-dagat sa Sabah ay marami silang kamag-anak. Kinamumuhian silang squatters sa gilid ng mga palengke ng isda. Dahil mangmang sila at walang papeles, pinagsususpetsahan sila ng masasamang balak. Maraming maselang trabaho ang tao na paulit-ulit at ka­ilangang wasto. Kung magkamali – “Sorry, tao lang” – maaring­ makapinsala. Halimbawa: pagmamaneho, pagpipinta, pag-oopera, paghihiwa, pananahi sa sewing machine. Dapat alerto ang utak, kundi’y magkakamali, makakasakit, makakagulo.

Pasok ang robots na mabilis ang computer speed, malaking memory, “mata’t tenga” (sensors), braso, kamay at gulong. Kaya nila magpaandar ng barko, humubog ng molde, mag-surgery, bumutas nang eksakto, at manahi nang daang libong bilis kaysa tao.
